Been there one week ago. Low touristic time, cold, very few tourists in town. Small room, two kids have to sleep in the same bed, but hey!, that what travelling is sometimes. I ask if hot water before taking the room, which looks nice and clean. BUT, when it comes to take a shower, no hot water after 5minutes at best ! Complaining about that unexpected situation (we are four of us with two kids and coming from the two days trek in the Leap Tiger Gorges ), We are being told that this is normal. The hot water is provided by a very small boiler that needs us to wait 30 minutes before there is again enough hot water for next shower !!! So we have to wait two ours to all take a shower ? I seems so, according to the "manager", and I am being told that it is strange that we all want to shower !!!! Am i dreaming ??? Sure i start to get nervous about the answers i get, especially since there is no compassion or excuse or anything done to try to help. I catch two business card that i saw on the receiving desk about this business owner (i discovered earlier he is a belgium guy married to a local lady) and plan to send immediately an e-mail, excpecting that it could change something. It gets worse : I am being asked by the reception lady a little bit later to turn back those business cards because "i cannot keep so many cards (!), because keeping those business cards is like stealing them (!!!!!!)" .......no I am not dreaming, it is late, my eldest kid got a three minutes hot shower before getting cold (it is close to zero in the evening at that time), all of other three couldn t clean up, nothing is done to help us and i am now being accused of stealing ..business card !!!! Arghhhh...Can t wait to be tomorrow morning ang get OUT of here and find another plae. The owner answered promptly to my mail, apologizing and thanking me for my feedback, but did not do anything to compensate or make a concrete sign of compensation or compassion. The morning after we moved to another guest house 100m from there : unlimited hotwater for all (yes mister owner, it is possible in other guest houses of Shangri la), eat welcoming, free welcoming tea for all, and all of that for 30 percent cheaper than here. AVOID is my advice. By the way : we ttravel a lot and have done a trip around the world last years, so i think we can fairly compare.....
